According to the Udmurtia authorities, the shooting claimed the lives of 17, including 11 children. 24 additional individuals were hurt in the incident, including 22 minors, according to Russia's Investigative Committee.

Artyom Kazantsev, 34, a graduate of the same university, was named as the gunman by Russia's Investigative Committee. It was also mentioned that he was wearing a black t-shirt with Nazi emblems. His intentions have not been thoroughly discussed.

Kazantsev arrived at School No. 88, where students from kindergarten through high school are educated, carrying two "traumatic" pistols—non-lethal weapons frequently used by law enforcement—that had been modified to shoot live ammo. The regional National Guard office claims that the firearms were obtained unlawfully.

Alexander Brechalov, the governor of Udmurtia, claimed the shooter, who was listed as a patient at a mental health institute, committed suicide after the assault.

The investigators are currently searching his home and examining the attacker's personality, viewpoints, and environment, according to a statement released earlier on Monday by Russia's Investigative Committee. Investigations are being done about his ties to neo- and Nazi-fascism.

A brief police video showed the shooter's body lying on the bloody classroom floor and dressed in all-black.
